Hairdressing Apprenticeships

  • Apprenticeships provide the perfect way for you to earn while you learn, achieving useful qualifications and training whilst acquiring priceless work experience in your work place.

  • Apprenticeships are primarily aimed at 16-24 year olds.

  • Your skills will be assessed in the workplace and Aston.

  • You will attend day release at Aston to gain the theoretical skills that you will then put into practice at work.

  • Apprenticeships are a great way to improve career prospects and professional development.

  • Apprenticeships always include an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification). This will be directly relevant to your work and will enable you to gain and demonstrate the skills and knowledge that employers want.

  • All qualifications are designed in partnership with employers, to ensure that any training given is directly relevant and valued.

  • You will be employed and earning, whilst gaining the benefits of high quality training to further your career prospects.

Aston Recruitment & Training offers you:

  • Advice and Guidance, to assist with gaining employment.

  • Opportunities to gain skills, experience and nationally recognised qualifications in your chosen industry.

  • An individual training plan to meet your needs will be agreed with you.

  • Support and encouragement throughout your Apprenticeship.

There are two different levels of Apprenticeships:

  • Apprenticeship (Level 2, equivalent to 5 GCSE’s at grades A*-C).

  • You will work towards NVQ Level 2.

  • An Apprenticeship may take up to two years to complete.

  • On completion, there is the opportunity to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship.

  • Advanced Apprenticeship (equivalent to two or more A’ Levels or a BTEC National Diploma.

  • You will work towards an NVQ Level 3 and will be aiming for a technical, supervisory or junior management role.

  • You will also work to a higher level of Key Skills/Functional Skills.

  • You will be employed, whilst gaining the benefits of high quality training to further your career prospects.

NVQ Guided Learning Hours

(City & Guilds Recommendation)

Guided learning hours are the hours you spend learning with Aston or on your own. The guided learning hours for the following qualifications are:

  • Level 2: 476 hours approximately

  • Level 3: 445 hours approximately

Hairdressing Apprenticeships

The Hairdressing Apprenticeships is an ideal way to ensure you are up-to-date with new techniques through practical training, as well as the relevant theoretical knowledge needed to work in this sector.

How is the programme assessed?

  • NVQ’s are evaluated through a series of practical assessments and a portfolio of work.

  • Key Skills/Functional Skills are assessed through a portfolio work and tests where appropriate.

How long does the programme last?

  • Up to 24 months.

How much does it cost?

  • The Apprentice must be employed in a hairdressing salon so the only other financial outlay is the salary paid to them.

  • Apprentices will need a uniform whilst attending Aston’s Academy, which consists of black trousers, black top and closed toe shoes.

  • You will need a basic hairdressing kit which you can purchase from Aston or an independent supplier.
