The NVQ covers the following mandatory units:

• Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health & safety

• Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation

• Advise and consult with clients

• Cut hair using basic technique

• Shampoo and condition hair and scalp

• Style, dress and finish hair using basic technique

• Change hair colour using basic technique

You also have to choose 2 of the following optional units:

• Perm and neutralise hair using basic technique

• Perm, relax and neutralise hair

• Perm, relax and neutralise African Caribbean hair

• Fulfil salon reception duties

• Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
